Spiderman: Liberty Lost…

Well I took some of your comments on the old spidey pic i posted, and along with a bit of artistic licence created this fake cover/splash page style pic. The basic structure and elements of the pic are the same (spiderman statuette). I decided to add the statue of liberty in the background (hence the title) and thought the smudgy painted look would maybe bring the whole pic together. Airbrushed some mist/clouds over the top of spidey and the wall (which is a flat fill of bricks distorted and smudged). Is this better than the Blast from the Past? You tell me.

Blast from the Past: Transgender Captain America

Well this is one i never got round to submitting for the Transgender theme day, but since i had three pics in it already, i don’t suppose anyone missed another one. Same base pic as i used for a Invisible Woman manip, I think Peta Wilson is a great model for this sort of thing. maybe even a good casting choice :p

Blast from the Past: Invisible Woman

Well, my first manip I posted on the DCG was of the Invisible Girl/Woman, and this is another of my early manips that at the time i didnt feel was worthy of posting. Seeing as we have a bit of a lack of submissions at the moment and I am having a bit of a dry spell with new manips, I thought it would be good to compare an early manip against my later ones and see if i have improved any. I think i have.. just a smidge.. and that is only because of the help advice and criticism that is available from all you lovely artists. Keep up the good work. This is Peta Wilson (Nikita) as Sue.

Note: Not too in love with the invisibility effect. Would have been better with a busier background. Ah well.

Blast from the Past: We all stand together!

Another of my older manips that i didn’t submit at the time. This is just a collection of busts plonked together in a ‘come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough’ kind of pose. At the time i wasn’t confident enough to try and give the colossus bust arms, so the placing of the other characters is more or less to hide the fact he’s (h)armless…

Well, thats my story and i’m sticking to it.;) Here we see the lovely Jessica Alba playing Jasmine ‘Jaz’ Connor AKA RazorWing, another survivor of the Weapon X program forced to undergo the same procedure as Wolverine. She was liberated from Weapon X by the X-Men, and has undergone a period of deprogramming by Charles Xavier. She still finds interacting with other students at Xavier’s school difficult. Wolverine, although a loner himself, feels an affinity to Jazz and takes her under his wing, as they both find they share a common goal – finding out about themselves and tracking down the individuals responsible for mutant experimentation.

Notes: For a theme day. The large base pic i found of Jessica was a great starting point, and the quality was so good i didn’t want to mess about too much. The ‘wings’ created from scratch, i tried to get a bone/metal effect that i liked. Added the gold piping to her jacket using a blurred multiply layer. It’s hard to tell from this pic, but i also added ribbing and the logo to her tshirt. Eye color adjusted to make them more vivid. Added the blood drip to the wing tip. Next thing was pulling it all together. The pic in the upper corner is another publicity shot of Jessica to which i manually added her pre-operation bone wings. This was run through an interference filter to give the impression of a video screen, part of the ‘computer download’ above is shown on this screen. The pic below that is a rendering of the female p4 skeleton which has had the wing blades added and also run through the interference filter. The addition of the wolverine pic in the background was a last minute choice, but I think it fits the whole picture quite well. It is from the Wolverine/Punisher comic. The final addition was the logo. This is made up of three layers – a black/white gradient, a white/crimson gradient and a chrome layer on top. The font is Skeksis.

XMas: Gift for Trygonez – Ghost Cop

After completing my manip of Trygonez as Captain Britain, I somehow came to the conclusion that maybe he didn’t quite fit the request, so I did another one.. Here is Trygonez as Ghost Cop, a character who appeared in Planetary. The poor chap’s spirit had somehow been trapped on a Hong Kong street corner when he was brutally murdered, and he was forced to return and dish out some retribution on other murderers.

This was also a lot of fun and didn’t really take that long to do, including the time to find the source pics. The main body of the pic was taken from one of the posters for Matrix Reloaded (yep that’s morpheus’s body in there). I removed the original head and blended Trygonez’s onto the body. Much additional shading and roughening later and a bit of a gradient fill over the top, followed by a run through the watercolour filter and it isn’t that far away from the Cassady pinup I used as the inspiration. Enjoy your Christmas Trygonez!

XMas: Gift for Trygonez – Captain Britain

Since one of Trygonez asks was for a male character from the X-Men camp, I thought I would look for one that hasn’t been done a million times. I know technically Cap here isn’t a mutant, but as one of the mainstays of eXcalibur, i guessed he would qualify.

This was actually a lot of fun to do, even if it does have a lot of fiddly layers. The body started of as Antonio Sabata Jr in shorts. This provided the base for the shading, lighting. everything else you see is artificially created, with the exception of our very own Trygonez’s face which i had a heck of a job colouring from the blueish tinged original. If you check out behind the flag.. you may see something in the cloudy sky… Merry Christmas Trygonez, I hope you enjoy your present.

Love, Or Something Like It’s Got A Hold on Me

Another piece using the art provided by Albea. We spent so long saying it would be nice to see them in a scene or a group, I did this to see how it would look. Both WW and Supes characters were submitted alone by Albea, my part was just to bring it together, background etc. The concept? Well Superman should have an equally noble and powerful partner, both in heroics and in love, and who better that Wonder Woman. Well, who knows.. it might happen….

The Great Divide…

Albea’s great work in the Timm style inspired me to do a quick manip of a few of his pieces into one scene. I thought the poses of the characters would be great to illustrate the rift between Nightwing(the original Robin) and Batman (& the new Robin). Let me know what you think, this was just a quickie to see how the pics would look together and I think it turned out quite well. As usual all characters by Albea, layout and background by me.

Gift for Everyone – Original Concept: SilkScreen

Well I had this idea kicking about in the back of my head for the best part of 2-3 months now, and it finally sees the light of day. I guess the final inspiration was the Prime Director (cheers Marcelo). Here we see SilkScreen (my original character) daydreaming about Prime Director as she plasters her bedroom with pictures from the DCG. For your infomation these pictures represent the cream of the DCG artists pool as decided by Essex each day, yes they are all 240 of the front page pictures that have appeared since I posted my first piece back in June up to the Day I am posting this one. Now I must rest.. my eyes hurt something chronic;)

Notes: The model is Kelly Brook. Prime Director is of course Marcelo Gomes’ work. The background is all YOUR work. You are all an inspiration to me. The purple suit is what she was originally wearing while standing in water. I tried to add some translucent panels over her chest, I think it came out okay. The cloak and shoulder clasp were added by hand. Then I downloaded all of the front page pics created thumbnails of them and began to build up the background. 240 odd individual layers later and I was pleased with the result. See If you can identify your work in the background. SilkScreen: She has the power to alter the opacity of herself or any object she can visualize, effectively rendering them invisible. Her powers are still forming and who knows what she is really capable of. cheers, Local

Endless Love?

Well i thad to happen didn’t it. Death & Dream visit the small mountain village of South Park. Death meets Kenny, who she thinks is kinda cool. But the course of true love seldom runs smoothly, and when they hold hands the inevitable happens. The rest of the story is pretty obvious. We have Death (with Kenny), Dream, Kyle, Stan and of course Wendy. I used the page applet to get the basics done, then tweaked and added stuff in PSP. Brought them altogether at the bust stop (which i extended a bit). I think the dialogue works well;) Info: Ryanarya posted this link to a page where you can create your own characters in the South Park style: http://www.comedycentral.com/southparkgames/character/

The Endless: Park Life (or Parkless?)

Ryanarya posted the link at the bottom in the no topic thread to a page where you can create your own characters in the South Park style. We had a big influx of pics of our very own artists done in this style. And I got a wee bit of inspiration. Thanks Ryanarya. Here we have The Endless (L-R Destruction, Delirium, Despair, Dream, Death, Desire, Destiny) This was a lot of fun to do. I used the page applet to get the basics done, then tweaked and added stuff in PSP. Brought them altogether on a nice hill under the stars. Hope you all like them.

Superman In Flight

I thought i would expand my repertoire(sp?) a little and have a go at using my tablet for something a little different than smudging photos. Here is a digital painting of Superman done only with the tablet and pen, the pose is based on a scan of a page i found on the web. I used this for the basic shapes and to give me an idea of where to put some shadows and highlights. I didn’t get round to doing the legs, so a bit of motion blur will had to do… Let me know what you think.
