The challenge today is fanboy favourite Power Girl http://outcaststudios.com/forums/index.php/topic/11346-daily-sketch-challenge-power-girl/
I didn’t want to just do the typical TnA pose and remembered seeing a great costume design over at Project Rooftop by Joel Carroll http://joelrcarroll.deviantart.com/art/Power-Girl-112505230 and used that costume as reference. Think it turned out quite nice after about 60 mins or so. The pose itself was inspired by a Ringo image of superman http://www.localhero.org.uk/2007/09/mike-wieringos-superman/
Well I woke up at a reasonable time this morning and decided to have a go at the weekend challenge before heading out.
This is a mock cover or poster for the Fables series of comic, featuring Bigby Wolf (the Fables’ Big Bad Wolf). I wanted to do it mostly as silhouette but figured the wolf needed a it more detail. Challenge Link:[link]
Not really familiar with the subject of today’s mega head sketch challenge [link]
but here we go with the delayed submission – Hector Hammond 15 – 20 mins SAI
Outcast Studios (home of the Deviant Daily Sketch Challenge) had a great little event this evening – a mock convention Artists Alley with appropriate fan request challenges. [link]
The fourth hour challenge was a particularly fun one (despite my ongoing stomach pains) – recreate a comic cover but instead of the original subject(s) use one of the revamped characters from DC ‘New’ Universe. I decided to use Spectacular Spider-man No 40 [link] as the inspiration. So instead of Peter Parker changing into the Lizard, we have Dick Grayson changing in Killer Croc. Kinda. It’s late, it took longer than I planned and is the best I can manage at the moment. Realised after I posted it I hadn’t finishing coloring some bits – sue me. I’m tired and sore.

The third hour challenge was split into two parts, each with a 25 min time limit:
I made a start but my stomach started hurting and I had to take a break. When I came back I got the basic layout of the first part figured out, but it was nowhere near good enough to post so I just left it and moved onto Hour 4.
Edit: I managed to concentrate on Monday night long enough to get the two parts completed and posted.
Part 1 – (Including time spent last night) Took 1.5 hours:
Part 2 – Changes took just under 25 mins. Powergirl became Powerman, and Iron Fist let himself go a bit as he got older:
Just an idea for a Superman costume, given DC has just done it and also the Man of Steel movie has done it.
A slight variation, I thought adding a charcoal section to the costume gives it a different feel.
Well I had a bit of time today so I went back to do some more work on my Oracle #dsc submission from earlier in the week. I think I have finalised the lines on Batgirl – but may still tweak Oracle in the foreground. If anyone is interested the poses were inspired by some of Casey Jones work – so you could say this is a homage.
I am like a lot of fans looking forward to seeing Babs back in action as Batgirl, but I will miss the fact that one of the most positive portrayals of a disabled characters in comics will no longer be there. I think that Babs as oracle was actually more socially significant than Babs as Batgirl (a female derivative of a male character). The character became important in it’s own right rather than being dependant on Batman.
Edit: Also one of the greatest Batman/Joker stories ever told – Killing Joke – I was worried it “now” never happened. Ignore this worry, I have been reliably informed that this is still canon – so good work by Gail Simone on Batgirl #1 I – looking forward to picking it up at store.
Anyway this is for today’s challenge over at #dailysketchchallenge [link]
A farewell to Oracle. I didn’t get as much done on finalising the drawing as I had hoped in the time but I think I was a bit ambitious – trying to show Barbara contemplating her past as Batgirl (and now her future). I did some basic coloring to give an idea of where i was going – and may still finish this

Well I got home from work and started doing the #dailysketch challenge while my dinner was cooking, got distracted by tv, came back to the sketch and didnt like it so started again.
This image took just around 45 minutes – a bit beyond the 30 min time limit but I wanted to add a bit of color to it. I based it on an old life study I did so I had the pose already, just needed to redraw it.
Challenge: Poison Ivy
Tools: Sai

Well I am having a bit of a superhero weekend what with browsing Deviant and watching superhero movies on TV. I came across the pencils for this image via one of the groups of which I am a member and was so taken by them that I had to have a go at inking and coloring/shading them as a gift to a talented artist.
Hope I did the image justice!

For the Weekend Challenge over at #dailysketchchallenge we were asked to do an image of ourselves as a hero or villain, and include an image of yourself that you used as reference. I decided I would do Rorschach from the Watchmen as I remembered I had this image of myself in a big coat (taken for my travel pass I think) from a couple of years ago.
Here is the image as at just after the 60 minute mark (challenge time limit). I will post a completed image because I enjoyed this so much I wnet on to finish it (color/background)! The fun bits so far were recreating the Comedian’s badge from scratch and coming up with an inkblot for the mask – I have tried to tie the pattern into my own facial features so a heavy block over/around the eyes and a hint of the mouth and beard at the bottom.
And here is the final version of my Weekend Challenge from #dailysketchchallenge. Finalised the coloring and recreated a background from the comic (smoggy sky). Smudged up the inkblot to make it look more like the movie and added lots of shading and highlights etc. Coat and hat now also have a texture as does the mask.
Done completely in Sai. Finished piece took around two and a half hours
Well for this sketch challenge http://outcaststudios.com/forums/index.php/topic/10989-daily-sketch-challenge-vol-16-05/ I was inspired by a pose I saw in the Supergirl - May Happy Returns Trade Paperback where Supergirl meets Supergirl! Anyway the basic sketch here took about 20minutes and then another 15 to get the coloring done. So here we see Arisia Rrab, Green Lantern of Sector 2815
Wasn't really familiar with this DC Comics character but liked the look of it so here is my entry for this challenge http://outcaststudios.com/forums/index.php/topic/10931-daily-sketch-challenge-vol16-01/ Left is the reference, middle is the sketch - took around 15 minutes. To the right is some colors.
Well I found this image while browsing my hard disk, which I had started coloring some time ago but never finished. The original image simply had Huntress on a plain page with a disk behind her head, and the way it had been drawn there were no feet. In order to give the image some context, I extended the cloak downwards to wrap around the added chimney (upon which she is standing). This at least gives a believable excuse for no visible feet.
Other than that lots of layers, burning and dodging, and a couple of easters eggs for the sharp eyed. Enjoy.

Inspired by a Simone Bianchi sketch I saw over at Comic Art Fans. Done in PSPX2. As always experimenting with different styles and effects.
For those who find the image too dark to make out – I did a different version:
Based on a Bruce Timm sketch. Thought I would try something different and give it the feel of vector art. Inked using Inkscape then Coloured in PSPX2 as ever. The background comprises many layers of grey shapes interspersed with ‘mist’ layers created using smudge and gaussian blurred gradients set to screen. Moon is done in similar fashion.
