SpiderManGeek Mask Design Variations

Found a great redesign of the Spiderman Mask by SpiderManGeek http://spidermangeek.deviantart.com/art/Spider-Man-Mask-Redesign-174895994 and thought I would ink it and do some different color variations.

Top Left inked with classic weblines, top right movie ‘raised’ web lines

Bottom – classic, symbiote, 2099 color schemes

Spiderman is of course copyright Marvel

DSC Catchup 280711 Ultimate Spiderman

Figured I hadn’t drawn spidey in a while, so when I found this challenge in the outcast archives it was a sign i should take it on http://outcaststudios.com/forums/index.php/topic/10915-daily-sketch-challenge-vol15-44/

The new Ultimate Spiderman. A lot less webbing than the traditional costume. My wrist thanks your ultimate universe! Decided to tweak it to look more like a polaroid snapshot in homage to 616 Spiderman – Peter Parker who is of course a photographer.

Spiderman – Wanted 1977

Well I finally got this finished (well as finished as it is going to be).  I was reminded the other week of going to see the original Spiderman movie (with Nicholas Hammond) back in 1977 and thought it would be fun to do a picture inspired by that movie costume.

Wanted to capture that haunted/hunted feel that Spidey often has with the Bugle trying to turn everyone against him. Drawn and painted in Sai – time taken? Far too long 😉 Enjoy.

Outcast Studios – Live Draw Night – 25/09/2011 – Hour 4

Outcast Studios (home of the Deviant Daily Sketch Challenge) had a great little event this evening – a mock convention Artists Alley with appropriate fan request challenges. [link]

The fourth hour challenge was a particularly fun one (despite my ongoing stomach pains) – recreate a comic cover but instead of the original subject(s) use one of the revamped characters from DC ‘New’ Universe. I decided to use Spectacular Spider-man No 40 [link] as the inspiration. So instead of Peter Parker changing into the Lizard, we have Dick Grayson changing in Killer Croc. Kinda.  It’s late, it took longer than I planned and is the best I can manage at the moment. Realised after I posted it I hadn’t finishing coloring some bits – sue me. I’m tired and sore.

Sketch – Spiderman Costume Concepts

Just passing 10 minutes or so while waiting for my dinner, and thought I would have a go at a Spidey costume revamp like all the cool kids over at Marvel are doing these days.  Done over a DCUAnimated Male Teen Hero template.

The one on the left is of course traditional Spidey coloring, just a different configuration. I wanted to use the spider motif to differentiate the red and blue sections and so the middle set of legs on each side stretch down over the boots (front and back). For the mask I wanted to incorporate the multiple spider eyes look. Think it works ok.

The centre costume is obviously without color – along the lines of Spidey’s recent FF costume. The rightmost is a negative of the centre one (obviously) and could be seen as a variant of the Black/Symbiote/Venom costume.

Just a bit of fun really.

Itsy Bitsy Spider Climbed Up The Water Spout [Original Art: John Romita] Colored

Well this started out as a simple John Romita (Snr) drawing of the amazing Spider-Man. The original drawing simply showed the character crouching and a shadow. After coloring the image, I decided that Spider-Man would be crawling through a dank tunnel or sewer. I created this background using a combination of layers tweaked using the perspective tools to create the illusion that the tunnel was narrowing behind our hero. After looking at the image for a few days like this, I decided to flip it vertically and add some additional elements – so now Spidey and crawling UP the wall of a down spout, towards the lip of a horizontal section upon which there is a small puddle of water – in my head this signifies that Hydro Man is up there waiting for him.

Fantastic Four with Black Panther and Spiderman [Original: Fred Hembeck] Colored

Fred Hembeck‘s work on character recreations is just so much fun to look at and fun to color. Here is another from my expansive hard disk collection. Not sure where the black and white art was downloaded from (if anyone recognises the commission source please let me know and ill add details here).  I particularly like how the effects work on the background turned out – real images of fire overlayed over a room created with a circuit board texture and gradient filled squares, skewed to give a 3d effect.

Spidey-Man [Original Artwork: Chris Giarrusso] Colored

Was going through some old folders on my NAS and found this Chris Giarusso drawing of Spider Man. I thought it would make another great practice piece to get back into the swing of coloring etc. I am not sure when or where i downloaded it, but if you want to see more of Chris’ execellent work please visit his website over at chrisgcomics.com

Angel Medina Spiderman – Color LocalHero

From Angel Medina sketchbook. Color/Additional elements PSP x2

The angle of the drawing led me to the coloring choices. Someone on the roof of a dark warehouse would be somewhat in the shadows. As usual the background was created from multiple textures and gradients, distorted to fit the image. I even included my logo as graffiti. I really like how this turned out, particularly the cobwebs and little “Spidey” spiders 😉

Woodgod

Following on from my Rahne pic, I thought I would have a crack at doing another “furry” from Marvel – This time Woodgod. Similar technique to the other pic, used a horses legs as a guide and added different shades of fur in layers over the top. swapped the hooves for ones with a bit more character and added the background (from Google) and some new grass/shadow in the front below the hooves. Logo is done using Vector Layers and a cherry wood pattern.

Wanted: Litigator. Apply Fisk Industries

Ok, I wanted to do a follow up to my Elektra/Loss Adjuster pic for a while now, and when I found this pic of Cindy Crawford I immediately thought it would make a great base for She-Hulk, Jennifer Walters.

The source image was a bit messy so I had to do some tidying before I began. The first thing I did was to broaden the shoulders and deepen the chest using the free deform tool. This was then blended back into the original image. I then created a mask of ‘shulkie’ so I could keep things neat later. The background is created from scratch over the original murky black curtain. I used some mauve gradient fills to create a floor/wall join and to provide some lighting. I used the same effect to create the window behind ‘shulkie’ making a faux 3d effect to frame the image of new york street signs I found on google.

The spidey is taken from a pic of a statue of him peeking in another window. I shaded him to make him darker and as if lit from the room. Over spidey and the street seen I created a glass pane using the noise filter then motion and gausian blur to give it some interest, and a white/black gradient to make it look shiny. The brief case was another google find which to which I added Walters stenciling and a shadow and floor reflection to blend it with the image. All pretty simple stuff, but I just wanted to make sure I kept my basic skills up during an otherwise dry creative spell.

Kevin Newburn’s Ock Vs Spidey (Colored)

Another of our own Kevin Newburn’s drawings, colored by my good self.. Another different effect here, I used Eyecandy’s Chrome filter in conjunction with the colorize function to do all the coloring on the characters. This gave an interesting effect. I softened down the reflections a little and hey presto. Hope you like it Kev 🙂

Spider-Man 2 Animated (Almost)

This started life as a Tracie Mauk inking of Spidey and Ock, digitally colored in my own inimitable style… colors, textures, gradients, chrome filters and this time a bit of masking on the background together with brush filter. The web in the corner is a texture on a couple of layers set to screen and the logo is cut from a Spidey promo pic. I know I should have metalized all the webs on spidey.. but..i’m afraid laziness got the better of me…

Parker’s Portfolio Preview #4

A closer look at one of the manipped Photos used in the final scene (used in my big spidey image and the portfolio collection image).

I tried to put the backgrounds at an angle to give the pics a dynamic feel. the pics were created using photos the model of the movie spiderman from various angles combined with excerpts from a panoramic view of manhattan at various angles.

The panorama was actually a daytime shot which i made negative, then colorized a pale green, and set to multiply over the original pic – and made a night view. The combined model and background pics were tinged grey/green and a border added to make it look like a photo. For these Individual pics I added the camera viewfinder graphics on an overlay layer

Parker’s Portfolio Preview #1

The pictures which make up this (and the following) preview pic(s) were created for to be used in panels in the Spiderman manip posted at the end of May.

Three of the pics were created using photos the model of the movie spiderman from various angles combined with excerpts from a panoramic view of manhattan at various angles. The panorama was actually a daytime shot which i made negative, then colorized a pale green, and set to multiply over the original pic – and made a night view. The combined model and background pics were tinged grey/green and a border added to make it look like a photo. The pic at the bottom middle is cut from the larger scene and shows my manipped from scratch movie Spidey (See the final scene art notes on how) The Daily Bugle press pass was from the net, I just tidied up the cornest. The Police pass was also downloaded from the net. I added the photo from the press pass, changed the date and added the name and paper details. The background is my previously posted Daily Bugle manip
