Well, I thought it was a bit off that lovely Anyte didnt seem to get a xmas pressie.. so i did a quick manip based on one of her requests. Hope you like it hun. Merry Xmas 🙂
After completing my manip of Trygonez as Captain Britain, I somehow came to the conclusion that maybe he didn’t quite fit the request, so I did another one.. Here is Trygonez as Ghost Cop, a character who appeared in Planetary. The poor chap’s spirit had somehow been trapped on a Hong Kong street corner when he was brutally murdered, and he was forced to return and dish out some retribution on other murderers.
This was also a lot of fun and didn’t really take that long to do, including the time to find the source pics. The main body of the pic was taken from one of the posters for Matrix Reloaded (yep that’s morpheus’s body in there). I removed the original head and blended Trygonez’s onto the body. Much additional shading and roughening later and a bit of a gradient fill over the top, followed by a run through the watercolour filter and it isn’t that far away from the Cassady pinup I used as the inspiration. Enjoy your Christmas Trygonez!
Since one of Trygonez asks was for a male character from the X-Men camp, I thought I would look for one that hasn’t been done a million times. I know technically Cap here isn’t a mutant, but as one of the mainstays of eXcalibur, i guessed he would qualify.
This was actually a lot of fun to do, even if it does have a lot of fiddly layers. The body started of as Antonio Sabata Jr in shorts. This provided the base for the shading, lighting. everything else you see is artificially created, with the exception of our very own Trygonez’s face which i had a heck of a job colouring from the blueish tinged original. If you check out behind the flag.. you may see something in the cloudy sky… Merry Christmas Trygonez, I hope you enjoy your present.
Another piece using the art provided by Albea. We spent so long saying it would be nice to see them in a scene or a group, I did this to see how it would look. Both WW and Supes characters were submitted alone by Albea, my part was just to bring it together, background etc. The concept? Well Superman should have an equally noble and powerful partner, both in heroics and in love, and who better that Wonder Woman. Well, who knows.. it might happen….
Albea’s great work in the Timm style inspired me to do a quick manip of a few of his pieces into one scene. I thought the poses of the characters would be great to illustrate the rift between Nightwing(the original Robin) and Batman (& the new Robin). Let me know what you think, this was just a quickie to see how the pics would look together and I think it turned out quite well. As usual all characters by Albea, layout and background by me.
Well I had this idea kicking about in the back of my head for the best part of 2-3 months now, and it finally sees the light of day. I guess the final inspiration was the Prime Director (cheers Marcelo). Here we see SilkScreen (my original character) daydreaming about Prime Director as she plasters her bedroom with pictures from the DCG. For your infomation these pictures represent the cream of the DCG artists pool as decided by Essex each day, yes they are all 240 of the front page pictures that have appeared since I posted my first piece back in June up to the Day I am posting this one. Now I must rest.. my eyes hurt something chronic;)
Notes: The model is Kelly Brook. Prime Director is of course Marcelo Gomes’ work. The background is all YOUR work. You are all an inspiration to me. The purple suit is what she was originally wearing while standing in water. I tried to add some translucent panels over her chest, I think it came out okay. The cloak and shoulder clasp were added by hand. Then I downloaded all of the front page pics created thumbnails of them and began to build up the background. 240 odd individual layers later and I was pleased with the result. See If you can identify your work in the background. SilkScreen: She has the power to alter the opacity of herself or any object she can visualize, effectively rendering them invisible. Her powers are still forming and who knows what she is really capable of. cheers, Local
Well i thad to happen didn’t it. Death & Dream visit the small mountain village of South Park. Death meets Kenny, who she thinks is kinda cool. But the course of true love seldom runs smoothly, and when they hold hands the inevitable happens. The rest of the story is pretty obvious. We have Death (with Kenny), Dream, Kyle, Stan and of course Wendy. I used the page applet to get the basics done, then tweaked and added stuff in PSP. Brought them altogether at the bust stop (which i extended a bit). I think the dialogue works well;) Info: Ryanarya posted this link to a page where you can create your own characters in the South Park style: http://www.comedycentral.com/southparkgames/character/
Ryanarya posted the link at the bottom in the no topic thread to a page where you can create your own characters in the South Park style. We had a big influx of pics of our very own artists done in this style. And I got a wee bit of inspiration. Thanks Ryanarya. Here we have The Endless (L-R Destruction, Delirium, Despair, Dream, Death, Desire, Destiny) This was a lot of fun to do. I used the page applet to get the basics done, then tweaked and added stuff in PSP. Brought them altogether on a nice hill under the stars. Hope you all like them.
I thought i would expand my repertoire(sp?) a little and have a go at using my tablet for something a little different than smudging photos. Here is a digital painting of Superman done only with the tablet and pen, the pose is based on a scan of a page i found on the web. I used this for the basic shapes and to give me an idea of where to put some shadows and highlights. I didn’t get round to doing the legs, so a bit of motion blur will had to do… Let me know what you think.
In the first of what I hope to be a continuing (if probably infrequent series), here we see our very own DCG stalwarts, Robbo & Essex fluffing their big chance of appearing in the forthcoming Trek extravaganza. The emotion of it all was too much, and they just had to make a corny art related joke. NEXT!!! hehe enjoy;)
These artists from all over the world collaborated on this photomanipulation replica of the cover to Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #1 (original by Mike Zeck). Dedicated to Robbo and Comics2Film.com:

Here is my small part of the DCG Secret Wars collaboration – Heath Ledger as Hawkeye. I began with the pose as per the cover of Secret Wars #1. Using various parts of bodies, i began to build up the basic manip. The original pic was black and white, so i had to try and give it a fleshy colour (still not perfect though). The main costume was done using the vector drawing tool, with manual shading by hand. the bow was done in the same fashion. I think it looks better as part of the whole, but I tried to fit it into a new context for the indiviual pic.
Here are some of the intervening steps on the way to the larger image (which i will post seperately with details):
Well, as most Transgenders seem to involve making male characters into females, I thought i would try changing Legionaire Umbra into a fella. I found the small pic of her from her pre-legion days i think. The guy is body builder Milos Sarcev. The pic was black and white, and he was originally wearing only his posing pouch, so everything else was added by me. It is my first real try at a cloak, and even that has taken me three attempts to get it looking halfway decent. I particulary like how the shoulder guard came out – definitely worth the effort put into it.
I got caught up in the thrill of nostaliga caused by the Thundercats theme day, and couldnt resist throwing this teaser poster together The logo is my own vector drawing, metal effects by eyecandy, light glow by animation shop [i did an animated one, but accidentally deleted it 🙁 ] anyways… enjoy;)
One of the other C2F DCG artists, Squedge did a drawing of Thing which inspired me to tinkering.. hope you don’t mind i’ve had a go at making your Thing look 3Dish…
Additional – he didnt mind one bit!
Well, this one kinda sneaked up on me. Here we see a promo poster for Wes Craven’s take on Alice from the American McGee game (one of my faves). This was a total frankenstein job, Rachel Leigh Cook’s face, body based on christy turlington, elements from game (logo, stained glass etc). the ‘omega’ pendant and all colouring, shading, lighting, wrinkles, additional hair by me. i really like this piece.
Note: Was originally created on a pc with a very dark screen, so the abrupt cut off on the arms and the background cheshire cat wasn’t noticed at the time.
Here are my versions of Rogue and Gambit for the Transgender theme day. Rogue is Marcus Schenkenberg, I don’t know who the female in the pic is, but when i saw them together, i thought of Rogue & Gambit.
The original picture was black and white. I smoothed out the skin, smudging out nipples and blemishes. then i sketched out the basic costumes and colours. As i usually do, the costumes are built up in layers. if you look closely at the exposed areas of uniform you will see a woven texture to them. this is also me starting to do wrinkles and seams. the glasses were done from scratch. the white hair was drawn in three shades using the pen. Gambits coat is frankensteined from a raincoat advert. the dinosaur picture in the background i found on the web somewhere. i thought it gave a ‘savage land’ feel, hence the title. i then finalised the shadows and added the x-logos. i think it turned out quite nice.
