The weekend sketch challenge from Outcast is Wild Kingdom [link] and as I have already been playing around with sketching a horse for a piece I am working on, I thought I would do a bit more practice before work.
I found a great tutorial here on Deviant by Droemar [link] which I have been using for reference.
Funny thing was I was planning to add MODOK to my Hector Hammond image yesterday but figured he would be the #dailysketchchallenge today and guess what [link] 😉
So here we have MODOK imposing himself into the proceedings from yesterday. And also Roger from American Dad wants a piece of the actions just for good measure.

Got really into this one so here it is after 45 mins – was going to have him holding a control or a radio but once I had drawn it I realised it looked like an old ipod classic – hence Apple iLeader 😉
It’s been a long day and I guess I am easily amused!

The fourth hour challenge was a particularly fun one (despite my ongoing stomach pains) – recreate a comic cover but instead of the original subject(s) use one of the revamped characters from DC ‘New’ Universe. I decided to use Spectacular Spider-man No 40 [link] as the inspiration. So instead of Peter Parker changing into the Lizard, we have Dick Grayson changing in Killer Croc. Kinda. It’s late, it took longer than I planned and is the best I can manage at the moment. Realised after I posted it I hadn’t finishing coloring some bits – sue me. I’m tired and sore.

The third hour challenge was split into two parts, each with a 25 min time limit:
I made a start but my stomach started hurting and I had to take a break. When I came back I got the basic layout of the first part figured out, but it was nowhere near good enough to post so I just left it and moved onto Hour 4.
Edit: I managed to concentrate on Monday night long enough to get the two parts completed and posted.

The second hour challenge was to produce a a scene involving Red Sonja and Death Dealer either fighting each other or someone else or celebrating a battle. Pretty much anything as long as it involved at least these two characters.
I decided to do them leading a horde into battle. This took me just over the 45 minute mark but I think it works.

A second submission for the Outcast Weekly Challenge, and I am really really happy how this turned out.
I drew this picture of my Dad (also called Bill) using as reference an unplanned photo I took of him back in 2005
He was struggling with his health but was still trying to be independent. I guess it is that determination that all of us kids have inherited (to a lesser or greater extent) – to just keep soldiering on no matter what shit life throws at you. Most of us also inherited his volatile temper 
although like him we have mellowed with age.
Done in Sai, an hour or so this morning before heading out to a comic fair and then finished off this evening. Maybe 3 hours in total as I wanted to really capture him.

I decided to have a look through some old photographs and found one of my Grandad William. Here he is in his military uniform in his younger days.
Sleepy tired and not quite with it so only did roughs, sketch and some basic coloring and that took about 60 mins (watching tv at same time!) – #dailysketchchallenge today is Bomb Queen from Image Comics [link]
Today’s sketch challenge was Jack Hawksmoor a superhero and member of The Authority in the Wildstorm Universe and of Stormwatch in the DC Universe. He first appears in Stormwatch #37 and was created by Warren Ellis.
Couldn’t stop at the sketch stage again.. sue me! Anyway around 60mins in Sai.
Wolverine: Old Man Logan is an eight-issue storyline from the Wolverine ongoing series by writer Mark Millar and artist Steve McNiven. It began in June 2008, ran through Wolverine #66-72 and ended in Wolverine Giant-Size Old Man Logan in September 2009.
oday’s daily sketch was to do a representation of this old Wolverine [link]. Done in Sai using Simon Lang from Avatar as the photo reference. Time taken just over 60 mins
Well I felt I should have a go at doing another image of Rebecca Romijn for the Sketch challenge (as using my previous image as a reference felt a bit of a cheat!)

Well today’s daily sketch challenge was to do an image of Rebecca Romijn – I didn’t want to do a simple portrait and so decided to use my 2003 photomanip of RR as Valkyrie as a reference for a quick color sketch

Well for today’s daily sketch challenge the subject was Marvel X-Men character Laura Kinney aka X-23
I wasn’t sure what to do so here we have Laura and a friend.
Well I was out after work with the boss and a few workmates, but I wanted to submit something for the daily sketch challenge [link] (since I didnt manage anything yesterday) so here is Barak Obama.. almost 😉

For today’s sketch challenge was a follow up from the FDNY one of yesterday – Paramedics or EMT. [link] I used reference of uk paramedics in case you were wondering about the uniform. Decided to do it as a cave rescue – just because. Done in Sai. 30 mins
Today’s sketch challenge was to feature the FDNY, first responders to the towers on 11th September 2001. I tried to do something that would in some way capture the hellishness of the scene that met them.

Well this week’s sketch challenges have all been red heads and today is no different. Dynamite’s Red Sonja ( She-Devil with a Sword ) [link]
Most of this week I haven’t had the time to do much more than layout so I took a bit longer this evening (1Hr) and tidied up my sketch and added a wee bit of color. After loading the image I realised she must be holding her sword with her butt cheeks – reloaded with appropriate strapping to hold the sword in place – lol
Also after looking again at the image, I see a bit of a resemblance to Lauren Ambrose (Clare from Six Feet Under / Jilly Kitzenger in Torchwood: Miracle Day)

I am like a lot of fans looking forward to seeing Babs back in action as Batgirl, but I will miss the fact that one of the most positive portrayals of a disabled characters in comics will no longer be there. I think that Babs as oracle was actually more socially significant than Babs as Batgirl (a female derivative of a male character). The character became important in it’s own right rather than being dependant on Batman.
Edit: Also one of the greatest Batman/Joker stories ever told – Killing Joke – I was worried it “now” never happened. Ignore this worry, I have been reliably informed that this is still canon – so good work by Gail Simone on Batgirl #1 I – looking forward to picking it up at store.

A farewell to Oracle. I didn’t get as much done on finalising the drawing as I had hoped in the time but I think I was a bit ambitious – trying to show Barbara contemplating her past as Batgirl (and now her future). I did some basic coloring to give an idea of where i was going – and may still finish this
