Well I felt I should have a go at doing another image of Rebecca Romijn for the Sketch challenge (as using my previous image as a reference felt a bit of a cheat!)
Anyway here is a simple image of Rebecca in her bikini.

Well today’s daily sketch challenge was to do an image of Rebecca Romijn – I didn’t want to do a simple portrait and so decided to use my 2003 photomanip of RR as Valkyrie as a reference for a quick color sketch
45 Minutes in Sai
Well for today’s daily sketch challenge the subject was Marvel X-Men character Laura Kinney aka X-23
I wasn’t sure what to do so here we have Laura and a friend.
Well I was out after work with the boss and a few workmates, but I wanted to submit something for the daily sketch challenge [link] (since I didnt manage anything yesterday) so here is Barak Obama.. almost 😉
Enjoy!
For today’s sketch challenge was a follow up from the FDNY one of yesterday – Paramedics or EMT. [link] I used reference of uk paramedics in case you were wondering about the uniform. Decided to do it as a cave rescue – just because. Done in Sai. 30 mins
Today’s sketch challenge was to feature the FDNY, first responders to the towers on 11th September 2001. I tried to do something that would in some way capture the hellishness of the scene that met them.
For the brave and the lost..
Was watching District 9 on Sky again this evening. Cracking film. As I was watching it I felt like sketching a bit of art so here is just a quick painting sketch of Christopher Johnson the hero “prawn” from the excellent movie District 9
Done using Sai – time taken about 1 hour
Well I had a bit of time today so I went back to do some more work on my Oracle #dsc submission from earlier in the week. I think I have finalised the lines on Batgirl – but may still tweak Oracle in the foreground. If anyone is interested the poses were inspired by some of Casey Jones work – so you could say this is a homage.
Well this week’s sketch challenges have all been red heads and today is no different. Dynamite’s Red Sonja ( She-Devil with a Sword ) [link]
Most of this week I haven’t had the time to do much more than layout so I took a bit longer this evening (1Hr) and tidied up my sketch and added a wee bit of color. After loading the image I realised she must be holding her sword with her butt cheeks – reloaded with appropriate strapping to hold the sword in place – lol
Also after looking again at the image, I see a bit of a resemblance to Lauren Ambrose (Clare from Six Feet Under / Jilly Kitzenger in Torchwood: Miracle Day)
Well I got home from work and started doing the #dailysketch challenge while my dinner was cooking, got distracted by tv, came back to the sketch and didnt like it so started again.
This image took just around 45 minutes – a bit beyond the 30 min time limit but I wanted to add a bit of color to it. I based it on an old life study I did so I had the pose already, just needed to redraw it.
Challenge: Poison Ivy
Tools: Sai
Copyright: DC Comics
Just playing about with mypaint [link] – so far looks like a lovely bit of software – and free! Seems like a great tool to use alongside or instead of Paint Tool Sai.
I think what this image is saying is that even in the greyest and least exciting life there will be some spark, some little thing that will bring brightness to each day. Or something like that
Another image trying out mypaint. Heh, I really don’t know what this is. Is it an angry cloud? Is it some disgruntled furry whale of the sky? Is it a discourse on the state of society?
That’s right it’s a disgruntled furry sky whale.. or something. I need sleep!
Something a little different. Just a moody greyscale image of Eminem. Used an image from the Sun newspaper archives as inspiration: [link]
Think it turned out better than the photo! 😉 Done in Paint Tools Sai, roughly 1 hours work
This weekend’s sketch challenge [link] was a 2 hour rendition of the X-Men (your preferred perfect class in the original uniforms. Well the Original or First Class was my preferred choice so here we are:
Characters: X-Men, Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Iceman, Jean Grey
Copyright: Marvel
Tools: Paint Tool Sai
Time: 2 hours
Fun: Lots!
And here are a couple of WIP steps for those interested in that sort of thing:
Ok, had some food and now a couple of hours later this thing is really coming together. I think both horse and rider and ready to start “inking” over but I am going to leave it to later to do that.
Meantime here is a rough color test of the image so far. I did this just to get an idea of where I am going. This is by no means finished 😉 Now I am going to leave it alone before I break it. Will post some more images once I do a bit more work.
Well I am having a bit of a superhero weekend what with browsing Deviant and watching superhero movies on TV. I came across the pencils for this image via one of the groups of which I am a member and was so taken by them that I had to have a go at inking and coloring/shading them as a gift to a talented artist.
Hope I did the image justice!
Subject: Michael Keaton as Batman
Pencils: Derek Dwyer [link]
Ink/Colors: Me
Character: DC Comics/Warner Bros
Using: Paint Tool Sai
Time: Around 2 Hours
Original Pencils: [link]
Well I was watching Wolverine: Origins again tonight and the liberties that were taken with Deadpool encouraged me to recreate one of my fave panels from the comic in penance for watching the movie. Here we see a sort of existential moment for Wade as he rediscovers his crush.
Lettering added in PSPX2, other than that everything else done in Sai.
For the Weekend Challenge over at #dailysketchchallenge we were asked to do an image of ourselves as a hero or villain, and include an image of yourself that you used as reference. I decided I would do Rorschach from the Watchmen as I remembered I had this image of myself in a big coat (taken for my travel pass I think) from a couple of years ago.
Here is the image as at just after the 60 minute mark (challenge time limit). I will post a completed image because I enjoyed this so much I wnet on to finish it (color/background)! The fun bits so far were recreating the Comedian’s badge from scratch and coming up with an inkblot for the mask – I have tried to tie the pattern into my own facial features so a heavy block over/around the eyes and a hint of the mouth and beard at the bottom.
And here is the final version of my Weekend Challenge from #dailysketchchallenge. Finalised the coloring and recreated a background from the comic (smoggy sky). Smudged up the inkblot to make it look more like the movie and added lots of shading and highlights etc. Coat and hat now also have a texture as does the mask.
Done completely in Sai. Finished piece took around two and a half hours
