Another coloring using PSP X2, this is me trying to get back into doing a bit more art again. Found this on the web some time ago and it caught my eye, just as a fun piece (as all of Fred Hembeck’s art is) that was done as a commission for someone. It looked like it would be interesting to color and it was. You can see an example of the original cover here Jack Kirby FF #167 and of the uncolored Hembeck image here at Chris Ryall’s Blog

The Zombie Goof Original: Biohaz_Daddy [Colored for HM Challenge #2]
Well i was lurking over at Heromorph.com and felt like having a go at coloring something so dipped into the Challenge bucket and found this great art by Biohaz_Daddy (Original Art Here). So here we have colored Zombie Goofy from Disney.
WSC 010711 Shaun of the Dead
Another weekend another sketch challengeover at Outcast – the challenge was to sketch up your favourite animation or transform a non animated show or movie into a cartoon. http://outcaststudios.com/forums/index.php/topic/10808-outcast-staffers-weekend-challenge/
I love Shaun of the Dead with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and thought it would make a great ongoing animated series so here is my “poster” for it. based on movie promotional material.
Wee Paper People – Tube Man (Customised Richard Herring)
Well Richard Herring posted a link on twitter to the Wee Paper People blog which had cut out and build paper models of various acts appearing at the Edinburgh Festival this year.
Well as you can see they are tres cute and so I thought I would make a custom of Richard’s one to be his character Tube Man – Righter of insignificant wrongs, avenger of trivial annoyances.
The Flash (Art: Bob McCleod) Colored
Hellboy (Art: Bruce Timm) Colored
Dark Phoenix (Art: Kevin Newburn) Colored
Another of Kev’s drawings, colored in PSPX2. Many layers and effects in this one. I especially liked what is happing with the background – the universe in flames almost. very fitting for this character. The only thing I think I could have done better is more shadows on the sash blowing in front of her – it looks kind of flat now.
On a Moonlit Knight
Inspired by a Simone Bianchi sketch I saw over at Comic Art Fans. Done in PSPX2. As always experimenting with different styles and effects.
For those who find the image too dark to make out – I did a different version:
Dawn (Art: Kevin Newburn) Colored
This drawing came up on the random image box over at Heromorph. I figured I hadn’t colored one of Kev’s images in a bit so here it is. Background is made of many layers including the skulls used on the dress/bodice layer – which in itself was a lot of pasting, rotating and distortion to match the “curves”, and my “classic” city scape silhouette approach. Mist done the same way as in previous pics.
The Other (Colored) Art: Ringo/Kesels
Pumyra (Art: Tony Perna) Colored/Background
Mantis (Art: John Buscema) Color
Well I have a few other things I am working on and it’s been a bit busy at work but I wanted to submit something new so here is Mantis (was girl of the week over at HM) as drawn by John Buscema. Colored in PSPX2 as usual. Background is an old one I downloaded from startrek.com many moons ago, with a few tweeks by myself. logo made up as I couldn’t find one for the character.
The Invaders (Art: Fred Hembeck)
Daredevil / Hulk (Art David Finch)
I found this Finch pencilled, Castro inked image and fancied adding some color to it. Think it looks not bad. tried a couple of different techniques here with varying success. The background is done in same fashion as my recent spidey pic but the resulting cloud/fog layer has been stretched horizontally and recolored to form clouds.
She-Hulk – Angel of Venice (Art: John Byrne)
The Spamtacular Spider-Ham (Art: Ringo )
Deadman (Original Art: Jeff Spokes)
Storm/Black Panther [Art: Frank Cho)(Color/Effects: LocalHero)
Firestar for Vampire Lover
Dark Spidey by JediMasterDarkHero Inked/Colored
Union Jack (Colored) Art: John Cassaday
Just a quickie coloring experiment in darker scenes. Think it turned out ok. Think the original art is a panel from one of the UJ limited series.
Edit: Oops found where I got this from..John Cassaday’s website (http://www.johncassaday.com/gallery.php?view=gallery&id=32). The image is from Issue #1, Page 3
To the North of Kathmandu [Art: B Timm, Col etc: LocalHero)
I found the base image in the Heromorph Cookie Jar (cheers to Comicfan for the clean up). Original Artwork by Bruce Timm. The background was by Tony Hayes (bogwoppet) although I have distressed it somewhat to fit this image. Coloring etc done in PSP X2. Oh and title is from the poem/song The Little Yellow Idol
Vampire Lover by Vampire Lover (Inked/Colored)
The uncolored pic was up in the random art box over at Heromorph so I thought I would give it a go coloring since VL contributes so much great stuff to the galleries over there. Inked/colored/textured in PSPX2. Background after the same fashion i have been doing recently. Really like the silhouettes against the deep blues!
Bruce Timm’s Invisible Woman (Color/Eff: LocalHero)
Another colored Bruce Timm sketch, this time the Invisible Woman. I wanted to try something different so I tried to show her invisibility powers. The background is a screengrab from a Doctor Who episode, together with some overlayed graphics and additional sketch lines to tie the style to the original sketch.
Gotham by Knight (Based on Bruce Timm)
Based on a Bruce Timm sketch. Thought I would try something different and give it the feel of vector art. Inked using Inkscape then Coloured in PSPX2 as ever. The background comprises many layers of grey shapes interspersed with ‘mist’ layers created using smudge and gaussian blurred gradients set to screen. Moon is done in similar fashion.
