Another ‘Ringo piece from 2006. had to do a bit of cleaning on this as there were quite a lot of pencil/sketching lines left on the scan. A great artist who will be sorely missed.

Mike Wieringo’s Thing (Layout/Color: LocalHero)
Digital Coloring/Layout of a Mike Wieringo 2006 Sketch of everyone’s favourite blue eyed pile of rock. You may recognise the background from an earlier wolverine pic I did – nothing wrong with reusing elements! Especially when you are feeling lazy.
John Byrne’s Thing (Layout/Colour: Local Hero)
A 1996 John Byrne rendition of the thing I took a fancy to coloring. The exiting from the frame effect just happened by accident.

This sketch came up on the random images in the front page over at Heromorph and I thought I would have a go at inking/coloring it. Done with vectors/textures & gradients. Background made up of several layers of random dots. The original sketch was very dark so I decided to keep it that way – which is kinda fitting given the character.
Woodgod
Following on from my Rahne pic, I thought I would have a crack at doing another “furry” from Marvel – This time Woodgod. Similar technique to the other pic, used a horses legs as a guide and added different shades of fur in layers over the top. swapped the hooves for ones with a bit more character and added the background (from Google) and some new grass/shadow in the front below the hooves. Logo is done using Vector Layers and a cherry wood pattern.

Silent Scream
I was sitting at my pc the other night looking through some old inhumans scans and I fancied doing an homage to Kirby Era Black Bolt. Did the main design elements of his suit in vectors, duplicated and gaussian blurred. then added many concentric hoops to simulate his scream. I didn’t want to ape kirby exactly, so the background is my interpretation of the kirby dots. Enjoy.

Wolfsbane
Here we find Rahne Sinclair who has just caught the interest of a Savage Land T-Rex. Well i’ve had this floating about unfinished for a few years now and finally managed to put it to bed. I seem to recall the pose was the first thing that attracted me to the pic, as it immediately cried out to be made into a crouching hero – but which one? I decided that I would have a go at Wolfsbane – seeing as I hadn’t really attempted fur. The model is estella warren. I cut the body from the background and began layering on hairs. This was build up in patches with additional shading done on each set. The grass was done in a similar way. I can’t really recall why I got stuck with it, but I think that it was the original hair that kept putting me off. In the end I just removed it all and added new hair using a wig image as a base and adding more layers. The background pic I have used before in my Rogue/Gambit transgender. Supergirl – Lost Daughter of Krypton
Just a quick manip of Kristiana Loken as Kara Zo-Rel. Multiple background layers – new york (yes I left in the towers!), couple of exploding planets overlayed and some kryptonian script. Supergirl herself is recolor of Kristiana’s original clothes with some alterations to make the belt/skirt and the cape added from scratch. removed some (few) blemishes and enhanced the eye color. Little ship in the background is kara escaping the explosion. Wanted to do a more realistic version of the current costume, but I prefer the highly saturated feel, these are comic characters after all. Classic Beast. Art: Bob McLeod Color: LocalHero
Found this Bob Mcleod drawing of Beast on my old hard disk and thought I would have a go coloring it. The background started as a generic sci fi off the web, recolored in the style of the movie complex and the smoke added. The dotted pattern added over the floor is a digital representation of dna. The rest is just many colored layers.

Just a piece of work I have had hanging around in my WIP for a long time. Finally got around to finishing coloring it. Many Layers (overlays/hard/soft light). The text is from scratch (not on original art) and a simple gradient on the wall/floor gives a good feeling of depth. Don’t think the metal looks too bad after all. I have of course made a silver version which I may upload if that’s allowed. The original artwork is a Craig Rousseau drawing.

Well I haven’t submitted anything in a while and I was reading some Cable/Deadpool recently and thought I would revisit one of my earlier submissions. A reworking of my coloring attempt from 2003 of Kevin Newburn’s Deadpool image. Kev’s work can be found at http://www.devildinosaur.com/
The basic work is the same as before but I have made the color a better match for the comic costure, and paid more attention to the highlighting. Also I have added a little humor in keeping with the character. If you are interested Wade’s name badge says “How may I kill you today?” Below is a side by side comparison of sketch and finished art.
